On July 13th, Kevin Manning of First Credit Union proudly presented Colleen O’Neil of Caring Circle with a cheque for $2768.70 for youth mental health on Bowen. This was part of the mental health week earlier in the year and the First Credit Union team topped up the $2500 donation with proceeds from a week long bake sale. It was presented with thanks to Colleen and her team and all they do for the health of the community. A big thank you also to the First Credit team and all the members who contributed.
Please register by this Wednesday (July 18th), as if we don’t have 15+ people we will cancel the event. And remember you can attend just the morning or just the afternoon session. The afternoon session is geared towards people who are looking after loved ones with dementia. Free registration and lunch offered but you must pre-register by calling the number on the poster.
Last call for registrants for this conference focusing on various issues around pain. Deadline to register is this Friday Nov. 10th so please spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested. We have 13 registrants at this time so we will most likely change the venue from Bowen Lodge to a smaller space. But we will contact you when we’ve secured a smaller space. Call Caring Circle at 947-9100 or firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
BLOOD CLINIC AT GLENEAGLES and
THEY NEED BOWEN ISLAND BLOOD!
May 24th, Wednesday at Gleneagles Community Centre
OK TIME to CALL ME! Surely we can come up with 15 people who want to give blood on May 24th? We can all walk on the ferry and they will send a shuttle bus for us in H.B.to take us to Gleneagles and then it looks like Brian Biddlecombe will donate the time and gas to bring us all home after we donate!! But this won’t happen if we only have a few people and after I mentioned this last week, I only had two people say they would like to go over. The best time for Brian is if we go over on the 1230 ferry and he’ll bring us back around 2:30 / 3 p.m. depending on how fast we all bleed :) Call Caring Circle at 947-9100 or email at email@example.com it.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to cancel the luncheon at the Legion tomorrow. Our next lunch will be Tuesday, December 13 which will be our special Christmas lunch – hope to see you then! You need reservations for this lunch so please call Caring Circle @ 947-9100 to reserve.
Caring Circle has a broad vision of reaching out to our entire community in as many ways as needed with health and wellness support. In response to feedback from our community, Caring Circle is launching a new program. Caring Circle’s CONNECTIONS Program aims to provide companionship to those on the Island who are seeking social contact and companionship. The volunteers in our CONNECTIONS program will come and visit people in their home to chat, share stories, read, play a game or do a craft, take a walk together, or perhaps be a grand-figure to a family. Perhaps once a week – whatever works for both parties.

December 3 – 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Bowen Island Lodge Seaside Retreat
Conversations and Questions about Death and Dying on Bowen
This one day symposium is not just for elders who are looking at issues around death and dying…this is for anyone who is interested in advance care planning, palliative care, dying on Bowen, or is looking after someone or might be looking after someone down the road, who would like to spend their last months and days in their own home on Bowen. Please come to find out more about these concerns and bring a friend. We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word on Island with anyone in your circle of email friends. We’ve booked Bowen Lodge as we’re hoping to attract lots of people as this has been a familiar topic at Caring Circle for people dropping in for support.
Nine years ago I started the Reindeer Run as I wanted to offer a winter walk/run event to get us outside and moving in the grey and drizzle and at the same time support Bowen Island’s Christmas Hamper Fund. We raise heart rates, have a whole lot of fun in less than perfect weather conditions – all the while helping to ensure everyone’s Christmas is a little merrier. How wonderful is that?

It was an evening of magic, possibility and delightfully frenzied bidding. The biennial KKN auction, this year supporting Caring Circle, ignited Cates Hill Chapel on Saturday evening. The room was festooned with enticing “objects of desire” that just couldn’t be resisted.
