Province Helps Seniors

JordanSturdySEA TO SKY – Seniors in Pemberton and Bowen Island will enjoy increased health care support and social programs thanks to Age-friendly BC grants from the B.C. Government. The Caring Circle Resource Centre will receive $20,000 to provide support and health services that enrich the quality of life of seniors living on Bowen Island. Pemberton will receive $20,000 to boost the Seniors Interacting through Art program.

Pemberton and Bowen Island are among 26 communities across the province receiving Age-friendly BC grants this year. A committee made up of staff from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and the Ministry of Health reviewed all applications. More than $480,000 will be awarded to this year’s successful applicants.

The Age-friendly Community Planning and Project Grant Program is a partnership between the B.C. Government and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities. The program allows local governments to establish or continue projects that support the needs of older residents. To date, it has funded more than 200 projects aimed at keeping seniors active, healthy and independent.
