Medical Assured Loading
Horseshoe Bay Terminal
When a patient’s health is compromised (for example – during radiation or chemotherapy treatments or pain sitting for extended periods of time directly after major surgery) by waiting extended periods of time in the ferry lineup, BC Ferries provides medical assured loading letters if requested by a physician or hospital. If your doctor decides that you should have a “medical assured loading letter”, the physician needs to email BC Ferries at customer.relations@bcferries.com and request a medical assured loading letter for your presentation to BC Ferries staff at the toll booth (along with your TAP form – travel assistance program). Ensure you allow a minimum 30 minute checkin time for Horseshoe Bay terminal.

Bowen Island Ferry Lineup
Once you have your medical assured loading letter, take it to Bowen Island Municipal Hall Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm or to Caring Circle Resource Centre Monday/Wednesday/Friday 10 am – 4:00 pm, for a card to put in your window of your vehicle for Bowen Island loading (upon presenting your assured loading letter). Parking for assured loading passengers will be in the cross hatched area in front of the General Store. To display your assured loading status, ensure the card is prominently displayed in your window. There is signage designating this special permit area.

If a patient is released from hospital with limited notice and not able to acquire an ‘assured loading letter’, BC Ferries’ staff will honour a letter from the hospital requesting assured loading on a one time basis.

If there is an overload and you have an assured loading letter, inform an employee and they will direct you to the appropriate tollbooth.
