COPING WITH ON-GOING LOSS & GRIEF
Sat., Oct. 5, 2013
10 am – 12:30 pm
This free workshop looks at common relationship changes family caregivers experience while caregiving and how these changes and transitions impact loss and grief.  This session will be an opportunity to connect with your sources of hope and strength, and learn ways to take care of yourself during challenging times. Open to individuals providing unpaid care or support to an adult friend or family member. Speakers: Carolyn Main and Kathy Schretlen, experienced group facilitators with the Lower Mainland Grief Recovery Society. Kathy has been supporting people in their grief for 15 years, and Carolyn has a background in both teaching and counselling related to bereavement.  Carolyn and Kathy believe in the value of community education around loss and bereavement.
CARE FOR THE CAREGIVER: HOW TO CARE FOR YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE THE CAREGIVER

Caregiving can be overwhelming and exhausting. In order to maintain your own health and wellness, it is important to learn and practice basic ways to care for yourself!
Join us as we discuss and learn about:
  • Recognizing and reducing caregiver stress
  • Setting limits and personal boundaries
  • Asking for and accepting help
  • Simply ways to practice self-care
  • Creating space for rest and rejuvenation

PLANNING AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF SENIOR CARE

This information session will help you:
Learn about wills, estate planning, powers of attorney and representation agreements
Understand the common legal issues that arise in relation to aging and senior care
Learn how to plan effectively and avoid crisis situations

All three workshops take place at the Raven Song Community Health Centre (2450 Ontario Street, Vancouver).
